Reisebrev fra Hongkong

Hei, her kommer et lite reisebrev fra Hongkong.

Jeg heter Klas Solberg og er stipendiat (på første av tre år) på NTNU, hvor jeg forsker på strukturell integritet av additivt tilvirkede materialer, hovedsakelig utmattingsegenskaper av den nikkelbaserte superlegeringen Inconel 718. Ved NTNU er jeg veiledet av Filippo Berto og Jan Torgersen. I mai 2018 ble jeg tildelt dr.ing Haakon Styris studiefond på NMS+NMF sommermøte, for studieopphold i utlandet.

For tiden har jeg et studieopphold ved Hongkongs Polytekniske Universitet (PolyU). Her besøker jeg Keith K.C. Chan (Professor and Head of the Department of Industrial and Systems Engineering, PolyU), og en av stipendiatene hans, Shuai Guan, som hadde et studieopphold på NTNU tidligere i år. Forskningsgruppen jeg besøker her på PolyU forsker på avanserte tilvirkningsprosesser og materialer, blant annet høyentropi legeringer produsert med additiv tilvirkning. Universitetet har diverse store labber med omtrent alle kommersielle systemer for additiv tilvirkning og masse annet utstyr.

Målet med studieoppholdet er å videreføre et samarbeid startet mellom Torgeir Welo (Professor og Instituttleder på produktutvikling og materialer, NTNU) og Keith KC Chan noen år tilbake. Vi skal samarbeide på områder hvor vi kan knytte kompetansen og ressursene til PolyU på avansert tilvirkning opp mot kompetansen og ressursene til NTNU på strukturell integritet. I løpet av tiden her har vi planlagt og startet flere forskningsprosjekter. Jeg har fått se labbene og kapasiteten til universitetet, blitt kjent med forskningsmiljøet og planlagt et nytt studieopphold i 2019.

I tillegg har jeg selvfølgelig også fått oppleve en fantastisk by, mye god (og rar) mat og interessant kultur.
